
Matt Coaker, P.E., named 2023 MACE Engineering Manager of the Year
We are proud to share that Matt Coaker, P.E., Vice President and Regional Manager at Southern Earth Sciences, Inc. (SES), was honored as the 2023 Engineering Manager of the Year by the Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE).
Matt joined SES in 2005 after earning his Civil Engineering degree from the University of South Alabama. Starting as an engineer intern, Matt quickly distinguished himself through hard work and a commitment to excellence. Over the years, he has served in key leadership roles including Project Engineer, Geotechnical Department Manager, and since 2017, Regional Manager for Alabama and Mississippi, and Vice President of the company.
Based in our Mobile office, Matt provides principal oversight of geotechnical and subsurface investigation work and frequently supports SES operations across Florida, Mississippi, and Louisiana. He has served as the Geotechnical Engineer of Record on hundreds of projects, ranging from small private developments to major industrial and governmental facilities. His technical leadership and client-focused approach have contributed significantly to the growth and sustainability of the Gulf Coast region over his 18-year career.
Matt holds professional engineering licenses in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida, and currently oversees a team of thirteen direct reports. A dedicated mentor, he has helped guide numerous engineer interns on their path to licensure.
His professional affiliations include ASCE, GBA, AGC, AGC’s Construction Leadership Council (CLC), and he is a proud lifetime member of the USA National Alumni Association.
When he’s not at work, Matt enjoys time on the water, in the woods, or working on renovations to his home on Dauphin Island.
